The technique for colonoscopy uses a transparent tube on the end, holding a light and miniature TV monitor. Sometimes referred to as the "hunter" this device is situated in the rectum and advanced by the colon. This is combined with a TV monitor that will monitor your doctor while you are doing the examination. Similar miniaturized devices may be inserted into the scope to help the doctor take biopsies (tissue samples) and show the colon's lining to diagnose the illness.
