The coronavirus pandemic has led to many companies getting their staff shot. In reality, in the week ending 28 March, over 6.6 million people in the US applied for unemployment. It is the highest recorded number in the US. The labor department, which is also anticipating an change in the weeks that follow.

Challenger, Gray and Christmas consulting company has looked at the markets that cause the most work losses in this way. We consider a total of 222,000 work losses in March in their report-up from just 56,000 in February. Which means that in the first quarter of 2020 there were 347,000 layoffs – up from the 190,000 recorded in the same quarter of 2019.
According to their report, the entertainment and leisure industry saw the most layoffs – 37 per cent, or 83,000 staff. Of course, this is not surprising because, for some time, leisure and entertainment facilities such as cinemas, concert halls, amusement parks, malls and restaurants have been closed.

During these research cycles the National Theater Owners Association has requested government assistance.

Other businesses forced to let go of their workers included banking, manufacturing and non-profit organisations.
