Several reports suggest the COVID-19 pandemic is having a mortal mark on senior care homes around the world. In fact, a recent study published by the research team at the London School of Economics estimates that in some countries 60 percent of deaths are due to these facilities.

For these cases, the research reports that international comparison is difficult, because most countries do not track the same cases. However, the study of selected countries indicates that 64 per cent of deaths in Norway are related to home care services for the elderly.

Similarly, in senior care homes in Canada and Ireland 57 per cent and 55 per cent of deaths were also recorded.

The World Health Organization, too, has shown that the elderly members of our community are the most susceptible to coronavirus. Especially those who already suffer from pre-existing medical conditions have been advised to take more precautions.

However, senior care facilities usually have shared dining rooms and dormitory areas that can cause the virus to spread rapidly.

The most recent coronavirus report shows 3,111,418 cases worldwide, with 215,310 deaths.
