Does the label 'Made in India' apply to consumers? The response to that is yes and no. Although "Made in India" became the country's most popular label – perceived even more favorably than "Made in the US" or "Made in Germany" – quality , price and brand name were far more relevant for customers than where a product became made.

The Indians were most likely to check a country of origin label for food, but also for telephones and vehicles, according to a survey conducted by YouGov – both options with a wide variety of goods produced locally and/or by local marks. As for alcoholic drinks, less Indians go by the original name, perhaps representing a consumer segment with weaker home-grown choices and labels
