Mexico has the largest death rate of any world with 1,320 heath workers so far killed in the pandemic, according to Amnesty 's data. Mexico has a poor test rate compared to the countries while health workers took to the streets of major cities to protest a chronic PPE shortage during the early stages of the epidemic. Amnesty claims hospital personnel are especially at risk that most of these services have already been outsourced, contributing to poorer safety equipment requirements.

According to recent statistics published by Amnesty International, Covid-19 has now left an estimated 7,000 health staff worldwide dead. Worldwide, there is no systematic national tracking of the deaths of health workers and Amnesty collects and analyzes data collected in over 80 countries. It has noted that its findings represent a snapshot as the concept of a health worker varies across countries while Covid-19 death also seems to be viewed differently.
